These pictures are from the trip i took to Peru in January. I was lucky enough to meet Nilda Callañaupa Alvarez, the founder of the The Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, who arranged for me to go to some of the surrounding villages that are carrying on the traditions of natural dyeing and weaving in the area. The center is a non-profit that works to preserve the traditions of textiles in the region and help artisans get fair prices for their work. In Chinchero i got to meet some of the master weavers and see them working with natural dyes. I was amazed by the vibrancy and range of color that can be achieved using natural dyes and will definitely be trying some out in my new work!
